Hills of Missoula, Montana home contact us

The naturally occurring features that grow in Lodgepole pine help us create beautiful, one-of-a-kind log furniture. The range of variations in pine include blue stain, knots, gnarls, snow twists, and burls. You can choose just about any combination of features for a rustic look, or go with a lighter wood like Natural Pine. Skip peeled logs add another dimension to the rustic look.

You may choose one or combine several wood options. Our craftsmen hand-select the wood you choose to attain your desired level of character.

Master Finish

Master finish

For a truly hand-hewn look, opt for our "master finish". All of our furniture is sanded smooth and finished but, for the master finish, our craftsmen take the extra time and care necessary for heirloom quality furniture. For an additional 50% the master finish option includes:

  • Hand-chiseled tapers where the logs size down into the tennon (see photo)
  • Two phases of meticulous sanding to an exceptionally smooth finish
  • Hardwood dowels to secure every joint
  • Full extension drawer slides, hinges and other premium hardware

Clean Peeled

Clean Peeled

This wood is stripped clean of bark. While clean peel pine is lightest in color and the "least rustic" of all our wood options, there is some color variation which may include some shades of gray. Choose natural pine if you prefer no color variation.

No additional charge.

Skip Peeled

Skip Peeled

Some inner bark is left on, producing a more rustic look.

No additional charge.

Natural Pine

Natural Pine wood

If you prefer the lightest color pine with no blue variation, choose natural pine either clean peeled or skip peeled.

All log furniture prices listed are for natural pine.

Blue Pine

Blue Pine wood

Most of our wood has some grayish coloration, but true blue pine is primarily dark blue with subtle grays, blues and yellows. The staining is left behind by a fungus that once grew in the wood.

$20 - $50 per burl.

Knobby Burled Wood

Wind River bed

The characteristic burled wood is caused from erratic cell growth in a tree, creating golf ball to bowling ball size rounded features.

$30 - $60 per burl

Gnarled Pine

Gnarled wood is caused by scarring to the tree. Layers of wood grow around the scar producing a desirable feature in log furniture.

10% - 50% extra.

Curve or Snow Twists

Curved logs in lodgepole pine usually occur when snow piles up on a hillside and gradually moves downhill over the winter, bending the trees with it. Compound curves occur as the sun coaxes the tree to stand up straight while the snow load holds the bottom.

$25 - $75 per log.
